6th Overall for Broc Tickle - DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha - Mt. Morris Recap

6/17/2010

Mt. Morris, PA - High Point Raceway hosted round three of the AMA MX National Series over weekend with a great track and cooperative weather. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha riders, #20 Broc Tickle, #48 Max Anstie, #341 Nico Izzi, and #577 Martin Davalos were working on a good bit of confidence entering in after the previous race. In Saturday mornings timed qualifying, Tickle let his speed be known when he set the 2nd fastest lap time giving him second gate pick for the day.

Moto one crossed over the gate, and after lap one Anstie lead the team in 4th, however as he approached the finish line jump a section of slick soil caused him to shoot into the air in the completely wrong direction. Landing off the side of the track he was abruptly stopped by a chain link fence, very shaken this ended Anstie’s moto. Meanwhile, in the action Davalos was 9th, and Izzi and Tickle suffered from a subpar starts in 17th and 20th. In the next four laps Davalos was able to hold on to the fast pace, bouncing back and forth between 8th – 11th, Izzi found himself settled in, which carried him to his teammate and the battle to be inside the top ten, Tickle however was picking up just where he left off moving right through the field. The later stages of the moto came, and it could be seen that teammates Tickle 9th, and Davalos 11th had charged all they could and needed to ride this one out. Izzi never gave in and plugged away through the duration to take 13th at the finish.

The all important second moto set out on the now treacherous track, and Davalos got out to a good start holding down 3rd, and on his rear wheel in 5th was Izzi who looked strong. The other FMF backed team leader after lap one sat far back, who was Tickle in 17th after getting tangled up, so he had some work to do. Still wanting to be the man, Tickle rose up and easily moved towards the top ten, on lap six he acquired 9th. Upfront Davalos and Izzi finally were having flashes of brilliance, with both riders holding 4th and 5th in a convincing fashion. With three laps to go the race intensified, Izzi hung it out only to falter just slightly with a small crash which caused a lose of a few spots, but as this all played out Davalos to encountered some issues dropping outside the top five. Tickle, the kid who never quits and is one of the few who can mount charges up to the front, continued moving in the right direction lap after lap. In the end, Tickle impressively netted 5th; Davalos secured 7th, and Izzi came away in 12th.

Update on Anstie: Max tried to race the second moto, but after a collision on lap one the soreness in his leg was better off being rested. At this time he is confident that he’ll be racing Budds Creek this coming weekend.

Results:
Moto 1 Moto 2 = Overall Finish
Broc Tickle 9th 5th = 6th
Martin Davalos 11th 7th = 9th

Tickle 4th Overall - DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha - Freestone Report

6/10/2010

Wortham, TX - The AMA MX National Series made its move towards the eastern direction this past weekend by landing in the state of Texas and racing at Freestone County Raceway. Being a fairly new stop on the circuit, track conditions and exceptionally hot weather at this race would prove to show what each rider had within themselves. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha’s top contending riders, #20 Broc Tickle, #48 Max Anstie, #341 Nico Izzi, #577 Martin Davalos and #2 Jessica Paterson all knew that they were provided with the tools for a successful outing, and now it was time to get to work.

Moto one went into session, and for the first time in outdoor competition Izzi started strongly, 5th and was followed by Tickle in 15th, Davalos held 20th. However the other Star Racing pilot Anstie, circulated in 38th with tons of work in his near future. But with the heat index reaching high temperatures, the boys put their heads down and mounted some serious attacks. Up front #341 was proving his skills; Izzi had battled his way to 3rd and maintained consistent lap times as other competitors faltered. Coming quickly to join the top ten was Tickle, who put in an incredible ride from the back and looked really solid. Farther back Davalos rode with a conservative pace to get him to the finish, while Anstie forged forward without rear brakes into the top twenty. Unfortunately Izzi had his breakthrough moment come to a halt when his body overheated, which caused him to pull off. From then on, both Tickle and Anstie aggressively took themselves upward till the last lap. In the end, Tickle took a nice 8th place finish, Davalos nabbed 13th, and the rookie Anstie did good by taking 15th.

The gate dropped for moto two with Davalos getting a great start holding down 6th. Tickle was off to a much better beginning sitting 10th, while Anstie pursued in 11th. In the early laps, Davalos slipped to 12th and was struggling, Tickle was able to move up to the 7th position, and Anstie was riding right on his teammate’s rear wheel just as he had begun. Moving past the mid way point, Davalos was still off the pace but fighting hard to stay in contention. Meanwhile the other DNA backed riders were staying consistent, Tickle and Anstie who had been holding 7th and 8th dug deep for several laps to make a dent into the time difference they had in front of them. Fortunately, the energy reserve was there after the hard charging done earlier, and with that Tickle moved into 5th twenty five minutes into the race. Anstie was on a mission to prove things as well, seeing him take to the rear of Tickle once again. With three laps to go, both riders were the strongest on the track, putting the pressure on the fatigued competition allowed them to march into 3rd and 4th. Never even minutely settling, on the final lap in the final feet to the finish line Tickle swooped up 2nd while Max almost took 3rd but ran out of time and settled for a impressive 4th. At the checkers Davalos pulled out a 9th, and to clarify Izzi did not start the moto due to needing more recovery time.

Results:
Moto 1 Moto 2 = Overall Finish
Broc Tickle 8th 2nd = 4th
Max Anstie 15th 4th = 9th
Martin Davalos 13th 9th = 11th
Nico Izzi DNF DNS

Once again, Patterson decimated the field of WMA competitors by winning both motos, and in great fashion she led every lap except for three with both motos combined together.

Next race: High Point MX park-Mt. Morris, PA

Tickle 7th Overall at Hangtown - DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing Yamaha Report: Hangtown

5/27/2010

Rancho Cordova, CA -The AMA MX National Series got the twelve race championship underway at Sacramento, Ca at Hangtown MX Park this past Saturday. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha attended with a huge presence, fielding our five rider team comprised of, #20 Broc Tickle, #48 Max Anstie, #341 Nico Izzi, #577 Martin Davalos and the WMA title threat #2 Jessica Patterson who will contend the entire women’s series for the team. Saturday’s timed qualifying started out promising with our ultra fast YZ 250F’s powering each rider to a fast lap time, the fastest being Tickle who obtained the 2nd gate pick for the opening moto.

Finding good form here early in the series, was Tickle who dug deep and took control of his outcome. The first moto was a trying one at that, Tickle started 10th, then after a few calculated moves near mid moto. Tickle had climbed the charts slightly, holding steady at 7th, he rallied to close the gap and make more advances. In doing so just past halfway Broc lost his wheels and crashed. Remounting in a distant 12th position, the always tough kid raced back up to 11th only to yet again take another soil sample. Dropping a spot one more time Tickle made up the ground needed, moving forward with only a few laps until the finish. Still charging in good fashion to snatch up a few tiring riders, he’d come up short as the moto concluded and was forced to settle in 11th.    In moto two Tickle’s start panned out a little more to his liking, with him in 8th, however he kept on the pressure and passed for 7th fifteen minutes into the race. Right till the bitter end, Tickle looked to have a top five finish coming his way. As he rode at the tail end of a four rider freight train, he made smart moves on a section of the track where he excelled. Lots of persistence paid off, which allowed Broc to get into 5th inside of four laps to go. Not settling one iota, Tickle hounded the moto one winner, nearly passing him on several occasions, but he never got it done. When it was over, Broc came away with a 5th, netting him 7thoverall on the day.

Anstie had a good start to his first season of outdoors on a Yamaha, through his consistency he did fairly well but it was not where he would have liked to land on the results page. For the English rider moto one began with him in 11th, from there Anstie maintained his composure and put his head down. Impressively, in just six laps he gained two positions, and now sat in a solid 9th. In the closing stages Anstie had one bad bobble which cost him a few spots as he crossed the finish line in 12th. Anstie second part of his tally had him starting 19th; and that was after passing a slew of riders in lap one. By the halfway mark he had crept his way into 15th, riding solidly he maintained this position for most of the race and right at the end Max moved passed a fatigued rider, leaving him to a finish of 14th and a 11th overall.

The struggles of Davalos could be felt, starting 9th in moto one, the DNA backed rider could not find his usual contending speed after tightening up early on. Doing what he could all the while, one rider after another would shift him back through the moto. The embarrassing showing, only allowed Davalos to muster up a 16th finishing position. Moto two looked more promising, as he started 11th, and then moved to back a few spots into 14th. Racing with some passion, Davalos pushed hard and made it back to 11th where he’d finish out salvaging 20th overall.

In closing, Nico Izzi had a rough start to his outdoor series, starting off in 12th unfortunately on lap two he crashed and had trouble restarting the motorcycle. This resulted in a long moto for Nico, but he did comeback to 22nd. Moto two was a solid showing for Izzi, who is coming off injuries. With lap one in the books, once again he held 12th and maintained that position the entire moto. Izzi’s uneventful combined moto scores gave him an overall of 18th and gave him something to build on.

Holding the torch high for the team, Jessica Patterson went out and destroyed her competition in a convincing fashion. Starting out in 2nd, she made an awesome pass on lap two to go by her arch rival. From there, Patterson checked out and took the win. Moto two was all of the same but better as Patterson led every lap and took the overall win with a statement.

Star Racing extends a great deal of gratitude to our sponsors.
